Children's Fund projects face axe

1 min read
Life-transforming preventive work with vulnerable children is severely at risk, an exclusive survey by CYP Now has revealed.

According to the survey, 65 per cent of local authority Children's Fund managers say projects are unlikely to continue beyond March, when local authorities will take control of the multi-million pound Children's Fund.

The survey, compiled with the National Council of Voluntary Child Care Organisations (NCVCCO), also reveals that 38 per cent of voluntary sector Children's Fund projects expect to deliver redundancy notices to staff before March.

For seven years, the Children's Fund has enabled the voluntary sector to support disadvantaged five- to 13-year-olds.

"Fifty special needs families will have no family workers and no service," said one respondent to our survey. "There will be a drastically reduced level of support and activities for local young people," said another.
