The General Social Care Council (GSCC), General Teaching Council andNursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) issued the statement in an attemptto encourage teachers, social workers, nurses and midwives to worktogether more effectively.
Cathy Cairns, professional adviser for children's nursing and childhealth at the NMC, said: "We believe it will make a difference to theservices children could receive. These sectors are increasingly workingtogether, so we wanted to develop something to make this easier."
Cairns said the statement highlights the fact that practitioners mustrealise their own contribution, but also respect others' role inchildren's services.
The statement also says that children's workers need to value the workof different professions and "form effective relationships across thechildren's workforce". It calls on professionals to "uphold thestandards and values of their own professions in theirinter-professional work", but adds that children's workers mustunderstand that sharing responsibility for children does not mean actingbeyond their own abilities.
