Commissioning: DfES unveils joint service framework

The Government has released guidance on joint planning and commissioning for children's services.

Children's minister Beverley Hughes said: "The framework is a children'sservices-wide view of how joint planning and commissioning will developover the next five to 10 years and be a driver of innovation andquality." The guidance contains best practice examples from acrossEngland and has been drawn up by more than 150 different experts fromcare workers and youth offending teams to the police and localauthorities.

"There's lots of nuggets of good information that people will be able touse," said David Hawker, director of children's services at Brighton &Hove City Council.

The guidance's proposals include creating joint commissioning units inevery children's trust.
