Social Care News: Inter-Agency Work - New guidelines on working together

1 min read
New standards to help social work, education, police and healthcare professionals work together have been proposed.

They are the result of Government-funded research in response to Lord Laming's report on Victoria Climbie's death and cover inter-agency working, and education and training. The standards address areas including ethics and confidentiality, roles and responsibilities and record-keeping.

The proposed sector skills council for children's services will now take the standards forward for further consultation and development. Researchers recommend that all basic practitioner training and education bodies should include the standards in their curriculum from September 2005.

They also say the standards should be nationally co-ordinated and that each profession's inspectorate should audit how the standards contribute to inter-agency working.

All bodies that fund continuing professional development and all area child protection committees should make financial provision for inter-agency training based on these standards from April 2005.
