In Practice: Up & running - Swallowdale club boost

Pupils at Swallowdale Primary School in Leicestershire can enjoy a range of activities including skateboarding and go-karting at their new before- and after-school club. The Swallows Club, which gained a 9,000 lottery grant for new equipment, also features a chill-out room, laptops and a plasma screen TV.

Heavitree and Polsloe Children's Centre in Exeter celebrated its official opening last month. The centre is based at Ladysmith School in Heavitree and run by the children's charity Action for Children.

An after-school club in Plymouth has been given a makeover including a new name chosen by children from Estover Primary School. The Just4Fun club for three- to 11-year-olds recently moved to Plymbridge Nursery School and Children's Centre.

Wardley Children's Centre had its official launch in July. The centre is the third to open in the east area of Gateshead.

Children and parents helped complete a mural at the official opening of Ormiston East Children's Centre in Peterborough. Other fun activities included gardening and junk modelling.
