Helping parents off benefits and back into employment is one way of improving their children's lives. Canterbury Nursery School and Centre for Children and Families has worked with Job Centre Plus to boost support and opportunities on offer to local families.
The partnership has seen a Job Centre Plus lone parent adviser conduct outreach sessions every Wednesday in the centre, working closely with community development officer Fiona Saville.
The partnership has led to stronger links between the centre and other organisations including a local college, the education and advice service for adults and Careers Bradford as well as referrals to specialist services. One aim has been to boost the take up of external training places through Job Centre Plus, which has led to more parents going on to further and higher education.
