In Practice: Know How - Using outdoor space

1 min read Early Years Education Extra-curricular
Outdoor space can be a valuable extension of a children's centre or extended school setting.

Even the smallest space can be made into somewhere fun and exciting that helps boost children and young people's development and learning. Outdoor space can be used all year round but with longer days and warmer weather ahead, now is a good time to think about how to make the most of it.

It is vital to take a holistic approach to planning, design and use of outdoor space to ensure it caters for children's different needs and interests. This applies if you're developing a new space, updating an old one, or revamping a section of a larger outdoor space. There is lots of useful information in Design For Play - A Guide to Creating Successful Play Spaces, which can be downloaded free at www.playengland.org.uk.
