In Practice: Frontline - Breaking down the barriers - Lynn Winter, full service extended schools project manager

1 min read
Lynn Winter is struggling to come up with a snappy name for the burgeoning extended schools partnership she manages.

At the moment it's called Full Service Extended Schools for WyvernCommunity, Bournville Junior and Bournville Community Infants. "It'shard to find something that sums up what we're about," admits Winter. The partnership encompasses an infant, primary and secondary school, based on the same site in Weston-super-Mare.

Winter took up post in the spring after the partnership was formed bythe three heads. It was funded by the Government's Behaviour ImprovementProgramme because the schools had behaviour and attendance problems. Butshe is keen to move away from that as the only reason for a vast arrayof out-of-school provision.

One of the areas where extended activities can make a difference is inhelping pupils make the switch from junior to senior school, shebelieves. "For many children the move from Year Six to Year Seven can bequite traumatic," says Winter.
