Three schools in Weston-super-Mare have joined forces to offer childcareand youth provision from 7am to 7pm every weekday. The schools, whichshare a site, have also opened up their facilities for adult learningand community activities.
Wyvern Community, Bournville Junior and Bournville Community Infantschools formed the full-service extended schools partnership, whichlaunched officially this month.
It was initiated by the three head teachers and is funded by NorthSomerset Local Education Authority's Behaviour Improvement Programme.Each school offers before- and after-school activities for pupils,including a cheerleading group, sports, dance and drama.
Project manager Lynn Winter said that before the partnership took offthere was a mish-mash of provision at the schools, running at differenttimes. "Having three schools work together means it is much moreconsistent," she said. "Now there are activities across the age rangefrom four to 16."
