Education News: Extended schools - Summer scheme to be extended

An extended schools manager is planning to widen a summer activity programme after it successfully reached some of the area's most vulnerable families.

More than 350 pupils enjoyed activities including circus skills'story-telling, den- and bonfire-making at the week-long activity clubsin Weston-super-Mare this summer. Three extended schools were involvedin the project, which was funded by a 6,900 lottery grant andcharged 1 per day per child.

Lynn Winter, full-service extended schools project manager for the threeschools, said she now hoped to run the project at half-terms as well asin summer.
