Building good links with parents and the local community is more like the "slow drip of a tap" than a gushing waterfall, says Maggie Eyre, learning mentor at Cale Green Primary School in Stockport.
"It's about setting out your stall and having people know that when you say you're going to do something, it will happen," she explains.
Cale Green serves a diverse community where a large proportion of parents have English as an additional language and there are a high number of pupils with special educational needs.
Nevertheless, it has made huge progress in working with families and boosting children's attainment through a series of extended schools initiatives.
