Montem Primary School in Islington, north London, serves a diverse population and has worked hard-to-build relationships with families from all backgrounds.
Having an "open-door" policy is one of the keys to its success, believes Tammy Whyte, the school's ethnic minority achievement co-ordinator.
The school has pupils from a wide range of communities, including Albanian, Somali, Turkish and Polish. When it found their parents were underrepresented on the governing body and parent support group, it set up different groups to engage with them. The school's philosophy is very much about listening to parents and finding out what they want, whether that's sewing or computer classes, says Whyte.
