A little goes a long way - Jacqui Oliver, children's centre development manager, Barnardo's.

Money isn't everything when it comes to establishing Sure Start-style services. That's a lesson Jacqui Oliver learned from setting up a Mini Sure Start programme in Wiltshire.

As children's centres continue to develop, her experiences are helping guide others in the form of a report she wrote with Mog Ball of the national Sure Start evaluation team - Children's Centres: Making Them Happen on a Small Budget.

"It came from realising there wasn't very much out there on a practical level," says Oliver, who is a Barnardo's children's centre development manager and a consultant for the charity's Training Learning Consultancy in the South West. "This isn't 'how to do it' but uses personal experience that may be helpful to other people."
