When it comes to setting up childcare in a children's centre, working in partnership is essential, says Kate Cleminshaw.
She manages Lark Hill Sure Start Children's Centre in Salford, which opened in January this year and is based in converted classrooms at Lark Hill Community Primary School. The school and centre may have separate entrances but the emphasis has been very much on working together, says Cleminshaw.
In November the centre launched a childcare service with 34 places for children from birth to three. Meanwhile, the school has a foundation stage unit for three to five-year-olds combining a nursery and reception class. "We're trying to create one early years team for birth to five across both sites," says Cleminshaw.
