If I were in charge of ... Tackling Climate Change

I would ensure that all those people who pretend to care about green issues but actually don't do enough to reduce carbon emissions become actively involved in helping the planet. Fossil fuels won't be around forever so we need to create the right incentives so that people stop thinking, "it doesn't affect me".

At Lancaster University, where I am studying, the focus on environmental issues is a part of everyday life. Our GreenLancaster scheme promotes environmental issues throughout the local community and creates real change, in everything from recycling bicycles to reducing electricity consumption.

Many schools focus all their attention on the academic side and miss important social issues - but climate change should be top of the agenda from the first day children go to school.

We also need to make it easier for green energy schemes to get up and running, rather than getting bogged down in red tape. At Lancaster, we have a plan to create the largest university wind turbine project in the country but it has been refused planning permission.
