The media is full of stories about young people being troublemakers andyobs.
You always hear negative stories involving knives, guns and Asbos butyou rarely hear about the good things young people are doing. I am afull-time volunteer with Agents4Change, a youth-led campaign run by CSVand supported by Tesco and v. I work with people aged 16 to 25 who aredoing fantastic things but they don't get the recognition theydeserve.
Recently, I have been working with a group called the Bang Bang Projectin Leeds where goths and heavy metal bands go to express themselvesthrough music. Their image can be intimidating to some people and theydo not look like the typical volunteering type. However, the responseI've had has been great. They want to use their music skills to giveother marginalised young people, who haven't had access to music, theopportunity to try out instruments like the guitar or drums.
