If I were in charge of... Making policy

1 min read Youth Work Participation
Every young person has a goal but some are more ambitious than others. The fact is young people aren't engaged in politics enough to know they have the skills and ability to rise to the challenge of influencing or shaping government policy.

My work as a community developer and youth worker has seen me rise to this challenge and help to shape policy. My work on the Reach campaign is about shaping policy so young black men in this country benefit from the opportunities available, so they can seek better employment prospects and a better future.

If I were in charge of policy making I would make sure that young people in schools and colleges, youth projects and other youth programmes were included in making policy work for young people. Young people would be consulted from the beginning and shown the results step by step to ensure they are aware of what's going on and how they can be involved in the future.
