What we need is responsible nations to take the first steps toward change; these countries can then encourage the less willing to step into line.
The Climate Change Bill is a positive piece of legislation but it is not radical enough to give it moral leverage on the world stage.
Volunteering as a press and policy intern at the British Youth Council has meant that I have seen how much young people are concerned about climate change and their desire for higher targets to tackle the issue.
A more ambitious target would surely afford Britain the moral authority to condemn countries for extravagance with carbon and give it the expertise to show to them effective ways of cutting down. It will encourage public opinion in other Western nations to push for reform. By encouraging change and reform in this country we can achieve genuine change on the global stage.
