Performance The percentage of looked-after children with three or more placements in a year. Years ending: 31 March
Last November, Manchester City Council launched a year-long campaign to recruit an extra 100 foster carers.
The council says it needs carers from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds to look after children and young people of all ages. In particular, the authority is in need of people to care for older children, siblings, black and minority ethnic children, young mothers and babies, and short-break carers for disabled children.
Having a range of placement options is essential in ensuring children are well-matched and to prevent multiple placement moves. Such instability can affect performance at school, health and a child's overall wellbeing.
