Essex County Council has put in place a strategy that aims to improve the stability of placements for its looked-after children.

The last four years have shown that the effort is paying off, with a steady reduction in the percentage of children in care experiencing more than three moves in a single year. In the year ending 31 March 2006, 17.8 per cent of children were still experiencing multiple moves, but latest figures estimate that this has dropped to 8.2 per cent for the year ending 31 March 2010.
