1 min read Social Care
Over a period of four years Nottinghamshire County Council has managed to ensure that less than six per cent of looked-after children are having multiple moves in a single year.

Council: Nottinghamshire County Council

Performance: The percentage of looked-after children with three or more placements during the year ending 31 March

2005 England 13.7% Nottinghamshire 15.7%

2006 England 12.9% Nottinghamshire 11.6%

2007 England 12.6% Nottinghamshire 10.7%

2008 England 11.8% Nottinghamshire 8.4%

2009 England 10.7% Nottinghamshire 5.9%

In 2005, around 15 per cent of Nottinghamshire's looked-after children had experienced more than three placement moves in the year. But over a period of four years the local authority has managed to ensure that less than six per cent of children are having multiple moves in a single year.

Jayne Austin, service manager for the Nottinghamshire fostering service, says support for foster carers has greatly improved. "We have increased fees to foster carers who have children 14 years or older on the condition that they stay at home and are available at all times," she says. "The child must have their own room and placements are assessed thoroughly to ensure they will last long-term."
