Honours: Recognition for children's workers

Children's professionals have been honoured in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Linda McCarthy, a teaching assistant manager at Newark Orchard School, Nottingham-shire, said she was "very shocked but incredibly honoured" to receive an MBE for services to special needs education.

Eleanor Bujalska, fieldwork manager of Kennet Childcare Team in Wiltshire, and John Vincent Box, a substance mis-use worker at Wetherby Young Offenders Institution, were also awarded MBEs.

Susanna Cheal, chief executive of The Who Cares? Trust, gained an OBE for services to children and young people, while Denise Platt, chair of the Commission for Social Care Inspection, was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
