Together for Children, the agency helping the government to deliver its children's centre programme, was recognised for its work in the north-east. Pat Gale, the agency's north-east regional programme lead, was appointed MBE for her efforts, along with her colleague Michael Jarrett, the north-west and east local programme adviser.
"I am really thrilled to have received this honour, which I am pleased to accept on behalf of all the committed colleagues I am privileged to work with in delivering Sure Start children's centres across the north-east," said Gale.
Jarrett was honoured for the work he did in his previous post as children's centres manager for Shropshire County Council, and said: "It represents acknowledgement at the highest level of both my contribution and the many children centre partners involved in the children centre programme in Shropshire."
