HOMELESSNESS: Government urged to help under-18s

Anthony Lawton was speaking as 60m was made available by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister's Homelessness Directorate to help local authorities and the voluntary sector tackle the problem. The funds will help local authorities carry out their homelessness strategies (YPN, 3-9 September, p14).

"Young people aged 16 and 17 are being subjected to bed-and-breakfast accommodation, in some cases without any support," said Lawton. "They are just as vulnerable."
