Homelessness: Younger homeless still end up in B&Bs

The youth homelessness charity claims that while the Government has cut the number of families spending six weeks or more in B&Bs by 99 per cent since March 2002, single young people have not benefited.

Anthony Lawton, chief executive of Centrepoint, said the six-week rule should apply to all vulnerable groups. He added: "Local authorities are obliged to house young people aged 16 and 17, but many do not have a strategy to do so."
