It aims to involve families in decision-making and develops the practices of lawyers and social workers.
As well as providing an advice line, which is used by about 1,200 families a year, it runs a series of projects helping groups such as ethnic minority families.
The charity also offers training and consultancy services for practitioners and managers in the statutory and voluntary sectors.
The organisation champions the use of family group conferences and its web site includes links to services around the UK. It also publishes a range of reports and guides, policy sheets and advice papers for families and professionals.
