Help from: Contact a Family

Contact a Family is a national charity that provides support, advice and information for families with disabled children.

Its support also extends to professionals working with disabled children. Contact a Family has produced a fact sheet for students and professionals, and also carries out research into the views of families of disabled children about the services they receive.

The charity, which was established in 1979, produces information packs for health workers and education departments too.

Its latest initiative is to set up a Dads Zone on its web site. It allows dads of disabled children to contact each other online.

The web site also contains a medical directory that lists and explains the different types of disabilities and severe illnesses from which children can suffer.
