Funding Watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Contact A Family helpline boost

1 min read
A charity that supports the parents of disabled children is to get 1.5m in extra funding to extend its national helpline and other information services.

The cash for Contact A Family, from the Department for Education and Skills, was officially announced by Chancellor Gordon Brown last week.

It will allow the charity to extend and develop its services until 2008, including promoting the helpline more widely.

Chief executive Francine Bates said: "It means we can reach more families around the country. We are extremely grateful to government for recognising how important it is to provide information and support to parents of disabled children in an accessible and parent-friendly way."

The charity reaches more than 18,000 families each year, providing specialist medical information and advice on childcare and welfare rights.
