Help from ... ACT

ACT, the association for children with life-threatening or terminal conditions and their families, is a national charity that promotes palliative care for children.

As well as providing information for families, it supports professionals through publications and conferences, runs a low-cost telephone helpline, and earlier this month launched a 120 page resource pack.

The charity, which was set up 11 years ago, is a joint organiser of the Children's Hospice International conference, which takes place from 26-29 September in Edinburgh.

It also publishes a range of guidance documents, covering areas such as assessing the needs of children.

Professionals can become members of the charity for 36 a year, which entitles them to free publications and a twice-yearly research journal.
