The college will appoint a new member of staff dedicated to supporting the participation of children and young people, as well as parents and carers, in its activity.
Children will help to draw up college policies, and participate in research project steering groups and in responding to consultation requests from other organisations. College committees will appoint children's champions to identify the issues young people should be involved in.
Professor Sir Alan Craft, president of the college, said paediatricians would also be encouraged to develop better communication with children.
He said: "We have to show by example what benefits we get by consulting with children."
