Health News: Scotland - 150m invested in dental health plan

Children in Scotland will have the largest supervised toothbrushing programme in Europe following a 150m investment in dental health announced by the Scottish Executive last week.

More than 120,000 children will take part in daily brushing sessions in schools and nurseries, receiving free toothbrushes and toothpaste.

The Executive also pledged that every child would have access to dental care on starting nursery and that 200 extra dentists would be in place by 2008.

Deputy health minister Rhona Brankin said there would be no moves to change legislation to fluoridate water supplies in the current Parliamentary session.
