Health News: Obesity - FSA sets sights on junk food ad stars

The Food Standards Agency will ask celebrities to promote healthy food instead of junk food as part of a new campaign against obesity.

A spokesman for the agency said: "At the moment it seems they (celebrities) are only advertising unhealthy foods." But, he admitted the agency had no legal powers to require celebrities to advertise healthy foods.

Celebrities fronting campaigns include England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio (McDonald's) and BBC presenter Gary Lineker (Walkers crisps).

The agency will also develop guidelines for the food industry on reducing fat, salt and sugar in products aimed at children.
