Health News: Healthy eating - Children's centres can improve diets

Children's centres can help persuade children to eat healthier food by involving them in preparing meals, according to a chef who gave up his job in a restaurant to work for a Sure Start centre.

Anthony Evans, who took a 6,000 pay cut to become chef at Sure Start in Speake, said he initially faced scepticism from parents and a lack of enthusiasm from children when he replaced fast food with dishes such as fresh salmon at the centre's cafe.

However, he said involving children in the preparation of meals, such as allowing them to help make pizzas, had helped win them round.
