55.5 conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 15 to 17 in 1998 (46.6 in England)

- 47.8 conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 15 to 17 in 2004 (41.5 inEngland)

- 8% of live births weighed less than 2,500 grams in 2002 (7.7 per centin England)

- 3.9 infant deaths under one week per 1,000 women in 2002 (5.2 inEngland)

St Helens rate of under-age conceptions has fallen by 14 per cent.Labour councillor Terry Shields, executive member for children and youngpeople's services, said: "The refocusing of resources and hard workacross disciplines and departments has paid off. We must not becomplacent though."
