The contracts, introduced in April, involve paying GPs according to the quality of care they provide based on standards for different services. Services for young people are not currently included in the contracts, but the Royal College of GPs' Adolescent Taskforce is hopeful that the white paper will set changes in motion.
Dr Ann McPherson, chair of the taskforce, said: "The new GPs' contract could have focused more on quality issues for young people's services. It's a missed opportunity, but we're optimistic that the importance the Government is now giving to young people's services means this can be reviewed in 2006."
