7 mins read
The health and social care white paper places a local emphasis on tackling inequalities, with children's centres and schools taking on a pivotal role. Asha Goveas assesses the paper and examines how the new recommendations will work in practice.

Children and their families, and the services that support them, are atthe forefront of the health and social care white paper's focus onprevention, tackling health inequalities and moving care closer to thosewho need it.

The white paper, entitled Our health, our care, our say, highlightschildren's centres as a prime example of how health services can bedelivered locally alongside other services. Though the Governmentintends to step-up bringing the "one-stop shop" approach to healthsettings, such as community hospitals and health centres, it saysco-location also needs to work the other way round, putting healthservices into places where people already go.

The Government's vision is for children's centres, which provideintegrated services such as family support, early education andchildcare, to become a key vehicle for providing more community healthservices.
