The news that GPs have registered their disapproval about the relocation of health visitors away from practices (Children Now, 22-28 June) has shown once again that there are still obstacles to overcome if the vision of fully integrated children's services is to become a reality.
There is immense concern among GPs that child protection and illness will fall between two stools if health visitors are located miles away from practices and their primary care teams broken up. And their worries raise questions about how frontline children's professionals, especially those from a health background, are being encouraged to participate in joint working.
