GRANTS: Youth groups get online with AOL

AOL has teamed up with charity Citizens Online to offer awards to community and youth groups that are not currently in a position to make the most of being online. Grants can be used for a range of uses, including getting broadband access, web site design, marketing or security improvements linked with computers and the internet.

Karen Thomson, chief executive of AOL UK, said: "We want to help local communities make the most of the online world. A youth club might need specialist equipment to help everyone in the club enjoy the internet."

John Fisher, Citizens Online chief executive, said: "Cost prevents many groups from getting online or improving facilities."
