Funding Watch: Who's getting money and whose giving it - AOL internet innovation awards

1 min read
Charities and community groups working with children and young people are invited to apply for funding for innovative projects using the internet with the launch of the third AOL Innovation in the Community Awards.

Thirty award packages of 2,000 and a free AOL Broadband Gold account for a year are available to new or existing projects in the voluntary sector.

Last year St John's Pre-school in Toxteth, Liverpool, won an award for a project that allowed under-fives to learn about other countries and cultures by surfing the net on a "magic carpet".

Cirencester Opportunity Group, an independent playgroup enabling children with special needs to learn with other children, was another winner with a plan to install a webcam in a bird nesting box.

A spokeswoman for AOL said: "The awards have attracted high numbers of applications from children's charities and community groups in the past two years - clear proof that the internet is having a positive impact in terms of education, helping kids to develop their IT skills, building communities and much more.
