GOVERNMENT: Hodge fails to take over youth justice

Hodge, who is under pressure to resign over her role in a child abuse scandal in Islington, went public with her bid for control of the remit at the last Labour conference (YPN, 8-14 October, p2). But sources close to the Home Office said: "David Blunkett has no intention of letting the Youth Justice Board go."

Sir Charles Pollard, acting chair of the YJB, said that the agency was independent. But a formal working relationship between Hodge's team and the board has been established.
