ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR: Youth Justice Board head gives backing to leaflet campaign

1 min read

Salford City Council is one authority that is using posters to publicise antisocial behaviour orders against local young people (YPN, 2-8 July, p2). And in parts of neighbouring Manchester City Council, such as Rusholme, Fallowfield and Wythenshawe, glossy leaflets are also being produced and distributed in areas where young people have been banned.

Pollard said: "Where you have very extreme behaviour that terrorises a neighbourhood, I think these measures are justified - if a court orders that it is justified to help control these young people's behaviour."

He added that it is other young people in these areas that often feel the impact of antisocial behaviour, but conceded that young people did have some grounds for complaint in relation to the wider criminal justice system.
