Funding watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Y Speak expands its age eligibility criteria

1 min read
The age range for applicants to a fund for consultations designed and led by young people has been extended to tackle a shortage of applications.

The youth-led strand of the Y Speak Consultation Fund, a Government-backed scheme that supports young people's involvement in decision-making, is undersubscribed, it was revealed.

Changemakers, the educational charity that heads up the fund, and the Department for Education and Skills agreed to extend the age range for applicants to 16 to 25.

Youth-led grants are awarded to young people to design, set up and manage their own consultation projects. "These grants provide opportunities for young people to express their views about the issues in ways they feel comfortable with," said Changemakers chief executive Adam Nichols.

Young people can apply for grants of up to 3,000 for a local, regional or national activity or up to 4,000 for an international activity. Deadlines for applications are 30 June and 29 September.
