Marianne Mannello, development officer at Play Wales, said: "The BigLottery Fund is keen to make sure this scheme has a lasting effect. Ithas come about because adults in the play sector made the case forchildren's play."
The programme will open in winter, offering grants of up to 1m.Priority will go to initiatives for eight- to 12-year-olds. Projectsmight include adventure playgrounds and holiday play schemes.
Huw Vaughan Thomas, Big Lottery Fund board member and chair of theHealthy Families Committee, said: "We look forward to working with PlayWales to help children to lead healthier lives."
