Funding watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - ReachingCommunities programmes to launch

The Big Lottery Fund is allowing schools as well as voluntary organisations to apply for grants from the 100m Reaching Communities programme, which launches on 7 December.

Reaching Communities applicants have to meet one of four criteria:offering people better chances in life; building strong communities withmore active citizens; developing improved rural and urban environments;or creating healthier and more active people and communities.

Reaching Communities will give 100m in its first year, but onlyto English organisations. Scotland launched its own three-year, 275m lottery programme last week. It will invest, rather than givegrants, in four areas: growing community assets; life transitions;supporting 21st century life; and dynamic communities.

A four-year, 116m lottery pot was due to launch in Wales today(30 November).

It will be split between four programmes: targeting communities; mentalhealth issues; life skills; and healthy and active children.
