Funding Watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Barnardo'sgets boost from bank

A Barnardo's short-break residential centre in Edinburgh for children and young people with moderate to severe learning and physical disabilities is nearer to be being built following a 250,000 Royal Bank of Scotland donation.

Work on the five-bedroom purpose-built Caern Project centre in theGogarburn area of the city is set to start in early spring 2006. It isexpected to be finished by the end of 2006 or early in 2007.

The centre will cost about 1m, which is being raised throughvoluntary donations. It will replace the current residential home atCurrie on the outskirts of Edinburgh, which is an adapted family homewith three upstairs bedrooms.

The new unit will be equipped with a special play area, sensory room,en-suite facilities, a large garden and specialist play equipment. Itwill enable Barnardo's to increase the number of families it works withfrom 30 to 40.
