Funding Watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Albert Hall date for Poplar group

1 min read
School children in the London neighbourhood of Poplar will join choirs around the capital this summer to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, following a grant under Youth Music's Singing Challenge scheme.

Poplar Partnership, part of the Government's Excellence in Cities programme, has received just over 12,500 from the scheme to spend over the next two terms. A soul and gospel choir, consisting of pupils from a local secondary school and five primary schools, is now working with London-based voluntary group Project Music Workshop, taking part in workshops and after-school sessions.

Parents, carers and school staff also have their own choir, and both will join similar groups across London for a performance at the Royal Albert Hall in June.

The Singing Challenge fund is one of four open programmes run by Youth Music and applications are open now up until September 2005.
