Funding Watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - US foundation targets UK pupils

1 min read
The first grant from the Moody's Foundation in the UK has been awarded to a Brunel University programme set up to encourage and support talented pupils from London schools.

The foundation, an offshoot of US-based financial services company Moody's Corporation, already supports similar initiatives in its native New York, and has now expanded its giving to London and Reigate in the UK.

The 200,000 award to Brunel's Urban Scholars Programme will be used to expand the scheme, set up in 1998, by 50 per cent over the next four years.

The Saturday morning school programme currently gives 100 12- to 16-year-old pupils the chance to access extra teaching in order to raise aspirations and improve exam results.

Moody's Foundation UK philanthropy co-ordinator Courtney Moita De Deus said the scheme would let children know it "isn't silly to be brainy".
