Funding watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Students take control of sports

1 min read
Schools across England can now apply for funding from BSkyB's Living for Sport programme.

The programme, piloted last year with 50 schools, is offering 200 schools the chance to nominate pupils to take part in a two-term programme of weekly sport activities to help improve pupil behaviour through teamwork and responsibility.

The project, run in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, will allow students aged 11-16 to plan activities, ranging from football and rugby to skateboarding and rock climbing. A final event will be held in front of the school or community.

To take part, schools can register their interest in the scheme and then attend regional briefings. Successful schools will be given training, start-up materials and a 250 grant, and all participating schools can enter a competition to win 5,000 at the end of the scheme.
