Funding watch: Who's getting money and who's giving it - Woolworths set to improve play

1 min read
A nationwide grants programme for primary schools across the UK is to be rolled out over the next two months.

The Playground Partnerships initiative from Woolworths Kids First follows a pilot scheme where primary schools in Kent and Essex bid for money for their playgrounds. From a 40,000 pot, three grants of 10,000 were awarded, along with several smaller awards of between 250 and 5,000.

The scheme will go nationwide over the next two months and every primary school will be able to bid for money.

A Playground Partnerships spokesman said the final pot was yet to be established, but said that more money would be available, with several grants of smaller amounts the norm.

Woolworths Kids First, a charity launched by the retailer in 1999, has so far committed more than 1m to 2,000 children's causes, including national charities, schools, hospices and individuals.
