The merger means local drug action teams will be able to apply for one grant from a single 50m pot, as opposed to multiple grants from different sources.
The money, now under the control of the Home Office Drug Strategy Directorate, will fund early intervention, education and treatment programmes for under-19s, and follows a pilot scheme last year involving six drug action teams that tested whether accessing a single pot allowed them to cut down on bureaucracy.
A spokeswoman for the charity DrugScope said the early indications were that the pilot projects had worked well. "We welcome anything that will make it simpler for young people to access services," she said.
